AMA CLUB # 159

NEXT CLUB MEETING
WILL BE FRIDAY,
JULY
25, 2008
AT THE SIMI VALLEY LIBRARY
THE MEETING BEGINS AT 7:30 PM

FLYING FIELD The Simi Valley Flyers is primarily a Radio Control Model Airplane Club.  We have a 450 ft. by 50 ft. asphalt runway with a 150 ft. by 35 ft. pit area.  Our flying field is located inside Oak Park which is owned by the County of Ventura.  The Simi Valley Flyers operate, maintain, and improve this facility under a lease agreement with the county. Oak Park is located off Los Angeles Avenue, about halfway between the cities of Moorpark and Simi Valley.  (See map below for directions on driving to the field).

The purpose of the Simi Valley Flyers is to promote Radio Control Aircraft Modeling to all.  The Simi Valley Flyers have designated instructors offering  NO CHARGE  lessons to anyone interested in learning how to fly radio controlled airplanes.

Everyone who flies at the site must be a member or a guest of a member and hold a current AMA membership.  More information on the AMA and  a membership application can be found at the AMA web site.

The Simi Valley Flyers put on several events throughout the year.  This past year a fun fly & BBQ was held in July.

The club holds general membership meetings monthly often featuring topics of interest and guest speakers.  A few times a year raffles are held at these meetings.

Bob Fricke's Senior Telemaster The air photos above were provided by Bob Fricke and his Senior Telemaster shown here.  Bob has a 35 mm Cannon Sureshot camera that looks out through a window under the left wing.  Also note the floats.  Bob likes to fly this plane off his boat in the ocean.  This plane has been flown at Santa Cruz Island, off Santa Barbara Harbor, and at several local float flys.  There are several club members that are also into float flying.  If anyone is interested in learning more about flying airplanes over water stop by the field or come to a club meeting.  These guys love to help others.
